Modern working environments are not created solely through new office furniture, open spaces or exceptional design. Rather, what is decisive is how people are involved in the design process and the freedom that companies create for new ideas.<\/p>\n

A good example of this is the new branch HeySpark from Sparkasse Trier<\/strong>. The concept originates from tibo ^ architektur<\/strong>, we from Warth B\u00fcroeinrichtung<\/strong> were allowed to supply the matching furniture for it.<\/p>\n

The idea behind it: moving away from the traditional bank branch towards a place where young people enjoy working, meeting and socialising.<\/p>\n

A modern working and meeting environment has been created with various work zones, workspaces and breakout areas \u2013 and even a PlayStation 5.<\/p>\n

Yet is that already enough to make a working environment truly innovative?<\/p>\n

Spoiler: No.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What makes a modern working world truly innovative?<\/h2>\n

Modern furniture and an exceptional spatial concept are initially just what you see.<\/p>\n

The real innovation is in the mind. It is in the processes and, above all, in the willingness of decision-makers to give new ideas space.<\/p>\n

In my view, three factors were particularly important for the HeySpark project.<\/p>\n

Involving young competence in office design<\/h3>\n

If you are developing work environments for a young generation, you should also involve that generation in the development.<\/p>\n

That is precisely what happened at HeySpark.<\/p>\n

Young creative minds from the team of Britta Tibo and tibo ^ architektur<\/strong> as well as from HeySpark<\/strong> were actively involved in the project.<\/p>\n

Not only were they the target audience for the new concept, but they were also able to contribute their own ideas on what a modern place for working, meeting and exchanging ideas should look like.<\/p>\n

2. Trust creates space for new ideas<\/h3>\n

Involving young employees is one thing. Actually handing over responsibility to them is another.<\/p>\n

Instead of dictating every single detail, the young project participants were trusted to think for their own generation and help shape decisions.<\/p>\n

This is precisely where true innovation begins for me.<\/p>\n

For a modern working environment is not created by a company buying new furniture or designing its rooms in modern colours.<\/p>\n

It is created when new ideas are permitted.<\/p>\n

3. Experience supports innovation<\/h3>\n

This does not mean that experience in designing modern working environments is becoming any less important.<\/p>\n

On the contrary.<\/p>\n

The task of our slightly older team of Warth B\u00fcroeinrichtung<\/strong> and of the experienced project participants at tibo ^ architektur<\/strong> did not consist in holding back the young ideas.<\/p>\n

Rather, we were able to contribute our empirical knowledge to develop the ideas into a functioning and viable solution.<\/p>\n

Practical questions play a key role in this:<\/p>\n

  • Which furniture works for the planned use?<\/li>\n
  • Which materials and products are suitable?<\/li>\n
  • How can design and function be combined?<\/li>\n
  • How does the concept stay within the allocated budget?<\/li>\n
  • How can the plan be put into practice later?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Experience and fresh ideas are not contradictory in this regard. Used correctly, they complement each other.<\/p>\n

    The result: a working environment by young people for young people<\/h2>\n

    The modern design of HeySpark is the visible part of the project.<\/p>\n

    However, the real difference lies in the attitude behind it.<\/p>\n

    Young people were trusted to take on responsibility and help shape a place for their own generation. At the same time, experienced partners were on hand to put these ideas into practice in a budget-compliant manner.<\/p>\n

    You can see the design. You can't see the trust behind it. But it's precisely that trust that makes all the difference.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    I also felt this energy personally during the project \u2013 in the collaboration with the young project participants from tibo ^ architektur<\/strong>, HeySpark<\/strong> and new media labs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Conclusion: Modern working environments need more than modern office furniture<\/h2>\n

    Therefore, anyone looking to design modern working environments today should not only talk about office furniture, colours and materials.<\/p>\n

    Crucial is the question of how people want to work, communicate and meet in the future \u2013 and whether they are given the opportunity to help shape this working world themselves.<\/p>\n

    The HeySpark project in Trier shows how well this can work when young ideas, trust, architecture and experience come together<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
